It's National S'mores Day!

S'mores... mmm.  They are a treat I was never able to have as a kid, but as an adult, I eat them as often as I have marshmallows in the house.  They are sweet. They are chocolatey. They are crunchy.  They are everything delicious.

S'mores were invented by the Campfire Girls, but then the recipe was made more popular by the Girl Scouts of America.  Over time, s'mores have become a staple at outdoor and camping events.

Easiest way to make a s'more at home?  Well, if you have a gas stove like I used to, stick those marshmallows on a skewer and go to town.  Sandwich them between two graham crackers and a slab of a Hershey's bar and you have instant scrumptiousness.

What if you don't have a gas stove?  No fear!  S'mores can still be in your future.  Put one marshmallow on top of one graham cracker and microwave for about ten seconds (watch the marshmallow expand... don't let it get too big or you will have a MESS on your hands).  Pull it out, top with a slab of hershey's chocolate and another graham cracker and voila, there is your s'more.  Now, obviously, the roasted method works better (you are very lucky if you have a fire pit to cook them in!), but the microwave will work in a pinch. :)

Happy S'mores day!  Go make some s'mores!

  3. Another thing that can be done is to roast the marshmallows with a kitchen torch!
